Types of Sedation Dentistry

There are different types and levels of sedation dentistry which depend on type of dental treatment and severity of anxiety.

There are three main types of sedation dentistry:

Nitrous oxide sedation

1) Nitrous oxide sedation:

Also known as laughing gas, this sedation is inhaled. A local anesthetic will be used in conjugation to provide pain relief. With state of art anesthetic monitoring equipment, we work to improve your smile easily and comfortably.

2) IV sedation:

Intravenous (I.V) sedation is the administration of tranquilizer medication into a patient’s vein. Compatible for the majority of patients. I.V sedation enables even the most anxious of people to undergo dental treatment.
The sedatives administered, create strong feelings of relaxation and comfort.
During your dental treatment you will not experience any pain or discomfort. When you have awoken after the procedure, you will have no memory of the treatment.

3) Oral Sedatives:

The technique of oral sedation begins about an hour prior to your dental appointment. A sedative pill is administered to the patient and after a short period of time, you will then become very relaxed.

Dependent on your needs your oral sedation can last between 2 and 6 hours.

As with oral sedation, a local anesthetic will be used for pain relief. Our team of sedation dentistry in Toronto will be giving you the best of services for this experience.
